The Perfect Childhood is the life story of Larry Clark seen through pictures, letters and the media. Like his other books, Tulsa and Larry Clark 1992, The Perfect Childhood examines adolescence and the awakening of sexuality, including the dark undercurrents of violence and lust, providing a frank depiction of a period that is often idealized. The Perfect Childhood includes an unpublished series of black and white photographs taken at the time of the Tulsa series, his writings while in a rehabilitation hospital, video works and collages.
