The TWAAS Team Reconvenes in Kassel for Documenta 13
News 21:51 PM - 10 Jun 12

As challenging geographically as Documenta always is, this year’s exhibition was rich and somewhat singular in its curatorial viewpoint, focusing on socio-econommic, scientific, and political expressions and complexities. The exhibition was particularly rich in performances, artist talks, and ambitious outdoor installations.

Among our favorites were Walid Raad, most especially his performance; Pierre Huyghe, a truly unique outdoor installation; Rossella Biscotti’s installation, film and talk; and Matias Faldbakken’s two library projects and conversation. Theater Gates’ project was truly a special treat, as the opening included a live session by the Black Monks of Mississippi. Documenta also offered a great opportunity to learn about new work by artists such as Wael Shawky, Hassan Khan, and Kader Attia. And finally, the remarkably successful library by Mark Dion was made even more special thanks to a chance meeting with the Ottoneum’s librarian who helped Mark create the piece.
