Denkmal ISBN 9080842427 [II] is Jan de Cock’s second major publication. The title itself places the work amidst the Belgian artist’s critically renowned sculptural installations, which he also titles “Denkmal,” borrowing the German word for monument. A 632-page compendium of images and texts, Denkmal ISBN 908042427 capitalizes on the sequential nature of the book to produce a monument to modern history that is cinematic in nature and epic in scope.

Jan de Cock made a sensational museum debut in Ghent in 2001 followed by a critically acclaimed sculptural installation, placed in a shipyard in San Sebastián, for Manifesta 5, in 2004. This early Denkmal was followed by others at the Henry Van de Velde library in Ghent (2004), the Shirn Kunsthalle in Frankfurt (2005), and the Tate Modern in London (2005). De Cock’s recent installations include Denkmal 25, on view at the Haus Konstruktiv in Zurich (August-October, 2006), and Denkmal 4, on view at the Casa del Fascio in Como, Italy (October, 2006).

Also available in signed and numbered limited edition artist books with photograph, unique denkmal sculpture & a signed and numbered certificate.
